9 Amazing Free Chrome Extensions For SEO

Posted by

I have played a number of roles in the web design space but the aspect of web that interests me the most is Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

I enjoy the research, the technical elements and more so, the game. It does not take long as a web designer to learn that building great websites means very little if you can’t get the traffic to your site.

As an SEO, you invest a lot of dollars into SEO Tools, you invest a lot of time in research and even more time putting it into action. Time and resources that most website owners can’t afford.

Fortunately, there are a number of very powerful SEO resources right at our fingertips that many people do not know about. All of the SEO tools in my list below are used by professionals, some more than others and for different purposes but the great news is, they are all free (some of them do have premium upgrades but are totally fine to use with their free features).

What’s beautiful is that when you combine them all, you’ll have everything you need.

Fortunately, Chrome has a bunch of extensions to help make life easier for SEOs. From SEO-specific tools to more general productivity extensions, I’ve laid out the 8+ Chrome extensions I find most useful when working on SEO projects.

So here goes.

1- Keywords Everywhere

Seriously, this extension is free? I have spent a lot of money on Keyword SEO Tools that do not do half as much as this tool. It is at your fingertips in your Chrome Browser (and also Firefox!).

Keyword Everywhere can also collate search volume data, CPC and competition data onto the screen of numerous keyword research tools such as Google Search, Soolve, UberSuggest, Google Analytics and more. You can also access keyword metrics for any keywords you choose and then download the list in Excel, CSV or PDF file formats.

Find out more at https://keywordseverywhere.com or download the extension via the Chrome Web Store.

Also available on Firefox.

2- SEOquake

A Web browser extension with a ton of uses. Analyse and extract Google search results, examine internal/external links, uncover on-page issues, check metrics, and much more. Download here.

3- MozBar

MozBar is an SEO Chrome extension by Moz that allows you to get instant SEO insights about different websites or search engine result pages (SERPs) without leaving your web browser.

Along with various backlink metrics, you can also see a website’s domain authority and page authority from this extension. Providing invaluable data and stats, the MozBar Chrome extension is a must-have for all SEOs.

4- SimilarWeb

Offering traffic and key metrics for any website, SimilarWeb is a popular extension that allows users to see statistics and strategy for any website while searching the internet with one click. This extension is helpful for those looking for new and effective SEO strategies, as well as those interested in analyzing different trends across the market.

5- Scraper

Quite often, we need to pull elements from a range of individual pages or websites for large-scale analysis. There are a few different ways of doing this, such as using IMPORTXML code to pull structured data from websites into Google Sheets or Excel.

The Scraper Chrome extension speeds up this process, using the XPath query language to export HTML data elements from a page, along with similar data from across the website.

It take a little getting used to, but there is a handy step-by-step guide here. Once you get accustomed to how Scraper functions, it saves a lot of time during any technical SEO audits.

6- View Rendered Source

As more and more websites make the transition to JavaScript frameworks like React and Angular, viewing the source code of a page doesn’t necessarily give you the information you might be looking for. The View Rendered Source extension renders the source code on your chosen URL and will even highlight the differences between the raw and rendered code so you can easily see the difference.

This can be especially useful for sites that have placeholder title tags and descriptions in place prior to the page fully rendering so you can ensure your optimized metadata is being rendered.

7- Open Multiple URLs

This extension reduces my time in opening multiple URLs from an excel sheet. You might have a question in your mind, why should I open Multiple URLs? This question will arise for SEO newbies mostly. Let me tell you why.

There are a lot of backlinks checker tool is available at online, and they all are giving backlinks reports in Excel format. We all are used to spy our competitor’s backlinks using tools like Ahrefs, Majestic and Moz.

Your job is easy as you can download the links in one click. Now you feel like ” I got the secret of My competitors.”

But when you look at the actual file, you will realize the heavy work required for you to analyze. Now if the site has only a few links, it’s ok. But what if it has 1000s of backlinks in the report? You have to look through all of the links to find where your competitor’s links are located.

Will you copy one single link from excel sheet and paste it into the browser every time?

No, you will become tired soon. I hate doing it. Once I was doing like this.

This is where you have to Open URLS. It is easy and simple to use. All you have to do is copy 30 to 40 URLs at a time and paste it into the input box and click open URLs. Especially the chrome has been consuming a lot of memory. You should have a minimum of 4 GB RAM to do this. Otherwise, your system will go down for some time.

Once all the URLs are opened, you can go through the pages and check URLs.

Now the tedious job becomes very easy.

8- Page Analytics Google

Page Analytics is an awesome chrome extension for your website. They share the important information of your website such as Real-time user clicks on-site, active users, page views, unique page views, Avg. time on page, bounce rate. They help you optimize your site, develop the User experience.

9- BuzzSumo

Need SEO tracking for social? BuzzSumo’s got you covered. This extension allows you to easily track shares and top-performing content on social media pages. Using BuzzSumo can help aid in future SEO decisions and check the backlinks you provide on your pages.

  2. Hello Ali, Thank you once again for such beautiful content. It’s so informative. I am currently using ubersuggest for my e-commerce website (www.allecokitchenproducts.com) since paid advertising is expensive I am concentrating on good SEO strategies for the website since it generates free organic traffic as time passes ahead. Also, try to learn about external links to the websites as I need traffic. Though I am struggling with this but eventually going through the resources I will try to work it out. Finally, your contents help a lot.
**Just a question is it necessary to have a blog post for an e-commerce website.**

    1. Hi Sumit,

You’re welcome. 🙂 Nice to hear that you liked my articles.

About your question, if you are aiming to get traffic from SEO then yes, you need to have blog posts on your e-commerce website but if you have other options to get traffic to your website (like social media marketing) then it’s not necessary.

      Best,
      Ali

  6. Good day Ali

I really took my time on your site, checking quite a number of articles and I must say, I got to realise how much hard work I still have to put in. Thanks for that. Coming to this article, I again realised how deep you researched on SEOs, all I knew was google and not that much still. This article is an opener in the world of SEOs and surely worth trying some of the extentions you highlighted above. It is a reality that most of these are little known to majority of people outside the IT profession. Thank you once again for sharing that expertise.
My suggestions: First, In your first sentence of this article, I think there is a grammatical error “aspect of web” should read “aspect of the web”. Second, on presentation of the 9 extentions, I think you could have used a more attractive subtopic to entice the reader to continue reading than just “so here goes.”

    Kind regards

    1. Thank you for your comment and suggestions Tavengwa. I’m happy that you’ve found my article useful. Hope it’ll help you to progress faster in your online business. )

      Best,
      Ali

  7. Well, Ali. First off, well done on such an attractive site design. The colours are great and very eye-catching. The graphics too. The post is very informative, thank you! I am at the start of my SEO odyssey and what you write is a bit too advanced for my knowledge level, however, it is very interesting to learn about some things which I may come across in the future. I don’t know what a back-link is yet!

I’m curious to know what the big deal is with the Chrome browser too. I thought that when designing a site, as long as a site loaded and performed correctly in any of the main browsers, it was fine to work in either. In my case, on my mac I’m using Safari. Is this bad? From experience, Chrome is quite heavy in terms of my (old / 2011) mac’s speed.

You explain each option above very well and it’s easy to understand. Which of the above options is best suited for a beginner in SEO? Thank you again for the great article. Looking forward to learning more. Take care, Susan

  8. Thank you, thank you, thank you! As a fairly new blogger you have helped me tremendously by sharing this information. My head is still swimming about all of the different information I’ve been trying to absorb in order to make my blog a success but this article was so helpful that I went and read your previous article about the Best Affiliate programs as well. You have been very thorough and I appreciate it as I’m sure others will too. I have a couple of people who are interested in blogging and I will most definitely send them to your website as a source of helpful information!

  9. Hello Ali,

Thank you so much for this information which is extremely helpful for me as I am currently putting my website together.
Oddly enough my computer defaults to “Microsoft Edge” however, after your article I have added Chrome so that I can use the information provided. For the moment I have Keywords Everywhere and BuzzSumo so that I can try and get better traffic to my website. I will try the others over time.

Thank you so much this article has been really important.

  10. Hi Ali

WOW, and again wow, this is a very informative article! I did not know there were so many free SEO tools. I have been looking for open multiple URLs from excel for a while now and immediately after reading about it, I went and added the extension to chrome, will definitely use this. SimilarWeb, BuzzSumo, and SEOQuake are on my list as well to install and check out. PS: I might just install everything and work my way through it 🙂

Thank you very much for the information these tools will definitely make my life a lot easier.

    1. You’re welcome Cornelia. ) Of course I don’t recommend you to install every new tool you see. Just test them and pick up the most suitable one for yourself.

      Best,
      Ali
