People ask: is Udacity a scam platform or it’s really the best way to find a new or your next job?

First of all, thank you very much for visiting my virtual home (DigitalWorldGuru) to read my Udacity review. The time passes quickly and everything changes fast as well and one of the things that passing of time changed it was education.

Now those days are gone that you had to drive or travel more than 50 miles for going to the university and nowadays it’s not surprising to see that someone received certification by reaching a certain level in a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) from the home!

In simple words, MOOC is a place where both students and teachers can benefit from and there are several platforms that offer this service for a certain amount of fee and to encourage new students to join this new type of online education, some of these platforms decided to offer some courses for free which means you can start learning at no cost and see if it fits your needs then go for the paid courses.

Today I’m going to review one of the most well-known MOOCs which is called Udacity. But before reading the whole review which I share all the pros and cons of this online educational platform, feel free to check out The Best Online University which is My #1 Recommendation Program that can teach you everything you need to know to become a successful Internet marketer and build an online business that can bring you full-time income online.

what is Udacity

What Is Udacity All About?

Udacity is not similar to other online learning platforms that you’ve probably experienced before. A virtual university is the best term to describe Udacity which offers both free and paid courses in a university-style.

Although it seems that computer science is the field Udacity focused on by providing a wide range of topics in that area but professionals in other fields can still benefit from its programs and courses to increase their knowledge and have a better chance to get high-position jobs in the future.

Most of the courses included in Udacity are custom-tailored which means after finishing them you have a better chance for finding your new or next job because things they’ll teach you in the course are something workforce needs to know and the company prefers to hire workforces who have already that information so they don’t need to spend money for holding educational classes to teach new workforces that information.

Another positive point about this educational platform is that Brick-and-mortar colleges and universities are in a relationship with Udacity and if you don’t know about Brick-and-mortar, it must be said that students need to choose classes that meet at predetermined time periods in Brick and mortar universities and this relationship with those kinds of universities to let them offer Nanodegrees programs so this certification that students receive confirms that they have an extensive experience and proficiency in a that specific training.

Who Is Udacity For?

In one word, a lover of learning! It’s not very important if you are a scholar or you just want to have more knowledge in a specific topic, Udacity has something to offer you. The good part is that you also have the chance to make some extra money by promoting this non-profit organization and invite people and other students to enroll in offered programs.

I know that making money with Udacity may look something new to you since you probably have never thought about it before so in the next section I’m going to cover this title in detail to let you know how it would be possible and if it really worths or not.

how Udacity works

Possibility of Having Online Income From Udacity

There are tons of ways to make money from the Internet, some programs like My Optimized Success Plan or Profit Shortcut are semi-scam which should be avoided and some others are not scam like Feature Points. Online learning platforms like Udacity are also known as another option for making extra money online.

Now Let’s talk about this attractive topic and see how someone can make money with Udacity. The money making ways in Udacity divided into two sections: earn from your skills, earn from Udacity affiliate program.

The first section is what 90% of people join Udacity for. They learn something new or increase their proficiency in a specific skill then start to build a business around that skill and make money. This is the process which takes time and effort but it can attract wealth if you use it the right way.

But the second option is not familiar to most of the people and it’s suitable for people who have already some knowledge of marketing and sale. Nowadays almost all online platforms that offer a type of service have a referral program that everybody can join and make some extra money by promoting that platform.

Udacity is not an exception and it has its own affiliate program and depending on the offered course/program there’s a potential of earning 45% to 55% commission for every successful sale. The commission rate is not a fixed amount because different courses have different prices.

In order to join the referral program of Udacity, you need to apply first which starts with filling out the application form an wait for Udacity to approve or disapprove it.

  • Detected errors and bugs in the platform
  • Paid programs and courses ARE NOT high quality always
  • It’s hard to communicate with coaches and mentors sometimes because they’re not always available
  • Have some scam signs

Red Flags of Udacity University

Here I want to give you more information about the cons of Udacity and tell you why those negative points hurt the credibility of this platform.

Paid Courses with Low-Quality

Well it’s not fair to expect a 100% perfect training program in the offered courses by Udacity because courses of these platform created by humans and mistakes are a part of being human but this should not open a door for those unresponsible mentors who don’t care about students and they just upload lessons one after another without having an educational plan and paying attention to learning ability of students who have different learning styles.

The truth is that unfortunately, the quality of “some” paid courses of Udacity is not worth the money you’ve paid for at all and although this is not a problem that backs to Udacity directly since individuals are creating courses but it’s a section that Udacity is responsive for that and it definitely needs a revision.

Lack of Communication

I’ve read several complaints from students who could not contact with mentors when they needed help. Some students said that mentors didn’t reply to their questions and because of that they could not continue the course until they get a response and even when they get a reply, it does help them with the problem.

Technical Issues

Many students reported bugs in the Udacity’s platform which are annoying and don’t let them complete the course comfortably.  This takes the time of students who paid a membership fee for learning something new but when these errors come up, they have to wait until the Udacity fixes them and it’s sad to say that some of these technical errors remain for a long time without any permanent solution.

You Don’t Get What You’ve Paid for Always

This is another common problem that students of Udacity have to face with. Although there are significant numbers of courses available in the platform but the truth is that the value behind many of courses is not equal to the price you’ve paid for.

A huge amount of unarranged low-quality information is not something that students like to see in a paid online university that offers Nanodegree programs and this is what Udacity should take care fast if it does not want to experience losing credibility.

Reading a couple of other reviews about the Udacity and taking a short look at offered programs by this platform showed me that 80% of Udacity’s courses are taken from free sources around the web and you know better than me that paying for something that can be found for free is waste of money.

Also, it seems that there’s not any entrance examination for persons who want to become a mentor in Udacity which result in tons of crappy courses in the platform that have been created by mentors who are not expert in the field they’re teaching.

is Udacity scam

Final Word – Is Udacity a Scam?

I have no doubt about the legitimacy of Udacity. It’s a well-known platform with a long history that provides many courses online and many people from students to scholars, teachers, individuals, etc. are using it for their educational porpuses.

Udacity offers a Nano degree certification but there’s not any reliable source that confirms you can use this certification for taking jobs or applying for universities which that certification is required.

Also, students with some or even a little knowledge in Data Science, AI Programming or Business mentioned that taking courses of Udacity didn’t add any additional thing to their current knowledge and this makes a serious doubt about the quality of offered courses.

Another problem of Udacity is that this platform started to provide online courses related to technology from the launch time in 2009 but after years, there are still bugs and errors inside the platform which make huge numbers of students disappointed. For an international online university, it’s not good to see that you have to wait for hours or even days to get a reply from support when you need a hand.

Finally, if you are worried about the legitimacy of Udacity, I make you sure that there’s not anything wrong with using courses and programs of this educational platform in terms of legitimacy and tons of students and learners across the world benefit are members of it currently but if the quality of the course/program you receive from an online university is important to you then you have enough reasons to reconsider your decision.

  1. Great post!
For a long time, I have been searching good education which really teaches me how to do online business.
To find out good online education is very difficult because there are so many scams!
In my past, I wasted my money to spend that kind of scam.
After my mistake, I know what I need to choose.
On the internet era, we need to educate ourselves before choosing online education.
    Your post is great.
It is a perfect guide for people who are looking for not biassed and clear information about online education.

  2. I think it is very important to know the purpose of joining the kind of platform kind identity. If the purpose is purely getting a good education from home, it is great. But, if someone is interested in making money after the education complete, there are more opportunities.

  3. Hi Ali,

Thanks for the great information about Udacity.

We all know that technology advances, especially in AI, will change the future of work. In fact, some of the jobs our grandchildren and great-grandchildren will be doing don’t exist yet. For example, I envisage that in the future we could have sensors attached to our clothing to monitor our health and well-being i.e heart rate, respiratory, etc, that means more data will be generated and sent to the cloud, which in turn means we’ll need more data scientists and analysists. And this kind of data means we’ll need more effective cybersecurity tools.

Training platforms like Udacity are becoming more and more important to enable us to acquire the necessary skills to successfully carry out those tasks.

That being said, I like the programs that are on offer, and that Udacity gives you the flexibility to work at your own pace.

The price is what I would expect to pay for the types of programs on offer, however, if there are technical problems with the platform and poor communication from coaches that would “turn me off”. So I would only consider signing up to their programs if these things improved.

Finally, I totally agree with your #1 recommendation. Wealthy Affiliate is the best training platform that I’ve seen to date.

Thanks again for the great information.

  4. This is a really good post that you’ve written. So good in fact, that I just had to comment and say thank you for sharing this.
This is very useful information and I’m sure a lot of folks will this as valuable as I do.
Thank you for writing this article and sharing it with myself and other folks who visit your site.
I’ll make sure to return and check out more of your writings.

  5. Thank you for this post.
I live in Sweden and we don´t have very many MOOCs. I didn´t know serious MOOCs lika Udacity existed. They seem very professional and I have a question for you. Do you know if the certificats or diplomas recieved from Udacity are valid international? Since we don´t have many MOOCs here it would be perfect to use Udacity as long as the certificats ar valid here too. Thank you also for likes and dislikes. When you´ve never used a system it´s hard to know what to look for. Thank you.

  6. Thank you for your honest review! With a broken education system, adults are having to figure out how to gain the knowledge they need to land their dream jobs without breaking the bank. I agree that Udemy has it’s moments, and is certainly an appealing platform for the lifelong learner! But, as you pointed out, the quality of the classes are just not guaranteed. It makes me wonder about the vetting process of the classes?

    Excellent article!

      1. I have a negative experience with udacity. It is same thing as coursera which costs 50$ per month. Udacity is 5x more expensive for no reason. Indeed no personal support , low quality of materials sometimes.
