Many brands are focusing all their efforts on getting higher conversion rates.
Don’t get me wrong. That’s extremely important for the success of your business. For the most part, conversions ultimately translate to dollars. They encourage sales and contribute to your bottom line.
But before people can convert, they need to find your website first.
Growing a website takes time. It takes consistent sharing of great content for months and months on end. Usually, it takes most people about two years to get big.
This means that your growth is slow and steady just as the traffic coming to your site is slow and steady. While that strategy will work, it’s always nice to get a huge jump in traffic every once in a while.
Would you like to know how to do that?

#1- Increase Your Social Media Presence
In this day and age, your company can’t afford to ignore social media.
Across the globe, social media usage has been increasing at a rapid rate for the past decade or so. Just take a look at the user growth across the social networks worldwide:
Having a Facebook profile isn’t enough anymore. You need to make sure you have an active presence on other platforms as well, such as:
- YouTube
- Snapchat
Do more than just create a profile. Post content on a daily basis.
Try your best to get more followers. Create posts that encourage engagement. Respond directly to your followers to entice communication.
These actions make it much easier for you to generate new leads.
Just because someone follows your brand on social media doesn’t mean they visit your website. But now, you can post links to your social pages with the intention of driving traffic directly to your website.
#2 – Optimise Your Google Business Profile
Your local SEO is incomplete without claiming and verifying your Google business profile. Every extra layer of detail, reviews and images added increase your chances of showing on map and google search. Here are some quick tips to improve your profile and get more exposure:
- Make sure all the contact fields are complete and match your website,
- Ensure your category is relevant and add two or three sub-categories,
- Get as many 5 stars customer reviews as possible,
- Upload your brand logo and images,
- Utilize the new Google posts feature to share updates.
#3 – Promote Content in Relevant Online Communities
Relevant online communities are places where your target audience hangs out on the Web.
You can find these communities everywhere:
- Facebook groups;
- Reddit;
- Slack;
Just don’t seek out a few Facebook groups and start spamming the heck out of them. There is no quicker and better way to get booted and banned.
Online forums and groups I’ve mentioned are a great starting point. Use them to start building your website traffic, and make relationships with other people in your industry.
#4 – Become an Expert in Your Industry
Teaching others how to accomplish something is one of the more popular forms of content marketing. Created by businesses of all sizes, learning resources are an incredibly effective way of earning traffic.
By earning the trust of your audience by giving away most of your knowledge for free, they’ll regularly visit you for more, share your content or sign up for your newsletter. They’ll also potentially sign up for one of your paid products or services when they need what you offer.
If a potential customer has a choice of suppliers, which will they trust, the one that has helped them regularly in the past or someone new?
Teaching your audience some of your knowledge for free might seem intimidating if you don’t think of yourself as a teacher. It might seem crazy – won’t customers not need you if you tell them what to do? Many have found that giving a lot of knowledge away for free is actually fine, as your audience won’t be able, or want, to do everything themselves.
#5 – Do More Guest Blogging
Guest blogging is a great way to reach new audiences that could then visit your website if they liked what you had to say, as well as a way to get more links to your site.
One of the ways to find great websites to guest blog is to search for key influencers in your niche and then to start building a relationship with them. You can use a tool like BuzzSumo to find the top content shared as well as the top influencers.
Once you start a relationship with these influencers, so long as you have already published valuable content in your name, you have a good chance of getting a guest blogging opportunity – maybe even a regular one if your post does well.
Another way to increase your traffic through guest blogging is to get someone to write a post for your blog. So when you find influencers in your niche, don’t be afraid to ask them if they would be willing to write something for you.
#6 – Join Quora
Quora is a Q&A site where you login to read, contribute and vote on answers.
In fact, Quora is in the top 200 most popular websites in the world. Identify key topics and questions in your industry, then make an effort to answer them concisely. Don’t forget to include a link to your website where appropriate.
If you want to make an impact on Quora, you’ll want to do the following:
- Go beyond shallow, salesy content and truly write an inspiring, thought-provoking, helpful answer. Some posts can go viral and are easily read by millions of people. Readers can tell an intelligent post from a vapid one.
- You can also write blogs on Quora. I’ve found that the best types of blog content on Quora are shorter snippets of things you’ve learned, stories and insights that your readers can gain from, rather than typical blog posts like tutorials, lists and other common types of posts.
- You can get a suggestion of people to follow based on your profile and those you allow, there’s also a great list of hacks that you can perform by adding certain words to the end of the trailing slash.
#7 – Update “Expired” Content On Your Website
Historical refreshes of content is a good thing, especially if some of your content has expired. Note, this does not mean re-doing your content; simply refreshing it to bring it current if it isn’t already evergreen content.
Look at ways you can update outdated content on your site to drive more traffic through visibility on search engines like Google.
#8 – Create Infographics
Infographics are great sources of traffic. All of the infographics I’ve published on my website have not only gotten a lot of engagement but they also drove more traffic.
Infographics get a lot of shares and engagement because they’re much more eye-catching than a regular blog post, while also conveying a lot of useful information.
But what really makes infographics great is that once you’ve published, you can submit it to infographic directories and contact influencers and other bloggers and websites to see if they are interested in posting your infographic on their sites. This leads to more exposure, increased brand awareness and more traffic.
If hiring an agency or graphic designer is not in your budget, you can also try any one of the free infographic tools available online. Visme or Venngage for example, allows non-designers to create not just infographics, but also interactive slide decks, social media images and other visual content.
Conclusion
I get really excited just talking about all of these tactics that can drive traffic to your site because they are the tactics that anybody can use.
As I’ve tried to show you throughout this article, they’ve been used by people effectively. I’ve used them for myself as well as for clients and so I know they work.
Finally, there is no secret formula for getting instant web traffic. You can, however, take all the steps in increasing your chances. You should also be sure that you are getting the right kind of traffic to your site.
So use above techniques properly and get those website visit numbers going up!
Good Luck! 🙂
